OK, so I’ve been a little quiet on the blog lately, but there is a good excuse. I am constantly going on about Cloud Computing, SAAS (Software as a Service) and Mobile Computing and indeed we have implemented these type of solutions for customers, but when I looked at ourselves and how we approach computing the best I could say was that it was FRAGMENTED. So we have started a project to migrate ALL the systems used by Glasgorman to Cloud Computing to that they are accessible anywhere and by any device that has access to the Internet.
The first step in this process has been to migrate our email systems over to Google Apps Premier and to use Android (HTC Desire) as the mobile platform. Hence the lack of posts over the last week.
Interesting Blog Post from Krishna De’s blog Google confirm that the speed of our website influences search engine ranking algorithms. There is always a tug of war between design/graphics and functionality/optomisation.
Using a Web Site Designer/Developer with Design and Optomisation experience is critical. (Check out if sites they have designed/developed are being found by Google)
Had a very interesting conversation with a friend of mine who runs a Holiday and Leisure Park. She told me that she had a fantastic response to an open day she held recently. When I asked her how she had advertised the open day, she told me that she had put an Ad in a National Newspaper, used Google AdWords and finally she set up a Facebook Page for the business and created a Facebook Ad.
When people arrived she asked them where they had heard about the open day and the results were as follows. The vast majority said Facebook, followed by Google Ads and finally in last place by a long shot was the National Newspaper. The interesting thing is that the most expensive was the National Newspaper, the second most expensive was Google Ads and by far the cheapest was Facebook.
The next time you’re marketing your business think very carefully how you spend your money.
