I attended the AGM of Gorey Chamber of Commerce last night at their offices in Gorey Business Park and I have to say I was very impressed with the positive outlook and sentiment from all concerned.

They have some great initiatives no matter what business sector you operate in.

Last Friday I attended the monthly Build your Business Network event which is held on the first Friday of every month by Gorey Chamber.

Each attendee gets to highlight their business or service and meet like minded business people in North Wexford.

At last Friday’s meeting Michael Doyle of Doyle Associates cave a very practical presentation on how small businesses can take practical steps to manage their money in these tough times.

If you are in business in North Wexford or South Wicklow these events are worth attending.

Bank of Ireland, National Enterprise Week

I attended a networking event in my local Bank of Ireland branch in Gorey, Co. Wexford.

Now while I have no love for the banking system in Ireland I do think this is a good initiative and the local managers are trying their best, within the constraints imposed on them, to work with small businesses and do everything they can to make finance available.

The Enterprise Week initiative is an opportunity to promote your business in your local branch and hopefully generate a bit of business or if nothing else, make a few contacts.

Wexford Social Media Mashup at Wexford Fringe Festival

I took some time out yesterday afternoon to attend the Social Media Mash Up at part of the Wexford Fringe Festival. Thanks go to Roisin Markham for making this event happen.

This was the first of these type of events that I had attended so I didn’t know what to expect. There were people there coming from a business perspective, from an artistic point of view and people who just had a personal interest.

Some very interesting and lively conversations about how people use social media for personal use, business use or both. If they use it for both what are the pros and cons of keeping business and personal identities separate.

What tools do people use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Blog? And how do you use these tools. Was very refreshing to discover that most people have the same issues and fears about social media.

Will definitely attend the next event of this type in Wexford and would highly recommend it to anybody who uses social media.

Business Advice Evening

I attended a Business Advice Evening yesterday in the Ashdown Park Hotel run by Bank of Ireland Gorey, Gorey Chamber of Commerce and Wexford County Enterprise Board. It featured speakers from the SFA, Islandbridge, Action Coach and Bank of Ireland’s Enterprise Builder. Each speaker spoke for ten minutes and concentrated on giving simple, practical advice that could be easily implemented by any business.

Well done to all concerned, great content, great format and plenty of networking opportunities.
